Behind

Procedural Law
1.

The ball is behind as soon as any part of it passes beyond the inner edge of a goal-line (not including the goal-line between the posts of the goal), whether touching the ground or not, unless it rebounds from a goal post or bar back onto the pitch.

2.

If the ball goes behind after it was last propelled by an attacker (i.e. it has been “cooled-over”), the defender has the following choice of re-start; either

a.

a Goal-Kick taken by a defender from any point on or within the 3-yard line and within the tram-lines, or

b.

a Set-Piece-Bully from where it was last played by the attacker.

N.B. This does not apply in the situation when the ball is deemed to have ricocheted off the attacker and crossed infinite Goal-Line. In such a case the ball is Rougeable. (See Law K(a)2)

3.

A player is standing behind if both feet are behind the goal-line. A player in this position must not attempt to play the ball or interfere with play.

Penalties:

If it is a defender who is standing behind, the penalty is a Point and a Free-kick on the 3-yard-line for the attacking side; if the umpire(s) believe(s) that a Rouge would have been scored had it not been for the actions of the defender, a Rouge should be awarded.

If it is an attacker standing “behind”, the umpire should award a Goal-Kick on the 3-yard line within the tram-lines.
